Ambassadors of Denmark and the Czech Republic have planted commemorative trees in Kintampo as part of activities marking the European Union’s golden jubilee celebrations, while promoting environmental sustainability.

The initiative forms part of a broader advocacy drive to encourage tree planting and conservation efforts across Ghana.

The ambassadors, who are on a cycling tour from Tamale through Kintampo to Sunyani and expected to continue to Accra, made a stop in Kintampo where they paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive.

During the visit, they jointly planted two ceremonial trees to symbolise the growing partnership between the European Union and Ghana in advancing environmental protection and sustainable practices.

Speaking at the event, Czech Republic Ambassador, Pavel Biyock, stressed the importance of planting and nurturing trees to ensure a healthy environment and curb the effects of deforestation.

He also raised concern over the increasing trend of charcoal burning, describing it as a major threat to forest resources.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kintampo North, Isaac Donkor, welcomed the initiative and pledged the Assembly’s commitment to protecting the trees and supporting environmental sustainability efforts in the area.
