With less than 100 days to go before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Black Stars high-performance coach John Paintsil has called on Ghanaians to rally behind head coach Otto Addo, expressing confidence that the national team can pull off surprises in this summer’s tournament.

The four-time African champions will make their fifth appearance at the World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking to 3Sports, Paintsil said the team must remain focused, particularly against tough opponents like Croatia, while highlighting Ghana’s chances against England.

“Ghana playing against England is going to feel like a local derby, but I believe Ghana will carry the day,” he said. “Croatia are very threatening; Ghana cannot underestimate them.”

The former Black Stars defender also praised head coach Otto Addo, describing him as a great leader and disciplinarian who deserves the full backing of Ghanaians ahead of the finals.

“Otto Addo is a great coach, a leader, and a disciplinarian. Ghanaians should give him their maximum support,” Paintsil added.

Ghana has been drawn into Group L and will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Preparations for the tournament include a training camp in March with friendly matches against Austria and Germany, followed by games against Mexico in May and Wales on June 2.
