Jordan Ayew says Ghana will head to the next FIFA World Cup 2026 determined to compete strongly rather than simply make up the numbers.

The Ghana national football team captain believes the squad has the mindset to make a meaningful impact at the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

Ghana, four-time African champions, have been placed in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will be eager to avoid another early exit after suffering group-stage eliminations at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Ayew stressed that the team’s ambition is to perform well and make the nation proud on the global stage.

“We are going to the World Cup to give our very best. We want to put on a show and, hopefully, achieve the results we are aiming for. We are not just going to the USA to make up the numbers,” he told Adom TV’s Fire-for-Fire.

“We will stay humble and focused, and hopefully we can dream of achieving big things. We need positive energy around the team, and we will do everything we can to make the nation proud,” the Leicester City forward added.

As part of their build-up to the tournament, Ghana will face Germany and Austria in friendly matches later this month. The Black Stars face Mexico in May, before taking on Wales in June, nine days before the tournament begins.

Ghana, appearing at the World Cup for the fifth time, will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, meet England on June 23 and conclude their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
