Residents of Mansie in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region have been left devastated after a violent rainstorm ripped off the roofs of more than 15 houses, rendering several households homeless and destroying parts of a local school.
The incident occurred during a heavy downpour at night, displacing families and forcing victims to seek shelter elsewhere as their homes were left exposed to the elements.
Some affected residents, speaking to Adom News through correspondent Nana Wiafe Akenten, described the terrifying moment the storm struck, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
According to the victims, the storm began with strong winds that suddenly intensified, tearing off roofing sheets and damaging property. Many families were unable to salvage their belongings as rainwater poured directly into their rooms.
The destruction also extended to sections of the local school, raising concerns about the safety of students and the continuity of academic activities.
The District Chief Executive for Kintampo South, Wilfred Zuuri, confirmed the incident and said officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have visited the community to assess the extent of the damage.
He disclosed that a report has been compiled and submitted to the appropriate authorities to facilitate immediate intervention and support for the affected families.
Mr Zuuri assured residents that efforts are underway to provide relief items and explore measures to assist victims in rebuilding their homes.
Meanwhile, the affected residents are appealing to government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and benevolent individuals to come to their aid as they struggle to recover from the disaster.
