The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced an additional disbursement of GH¢854 million to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), following an earlier release of GH¢237 million for 50,000 metric tonnes of cocoa. This brings the total funds released to LBCs to GH¢1.091 billion.
The Head of Public Affairs, Jerome Sam, confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The announcement comes amid mounting concerns in Ghana’s cocoa sector, where farmers have expressed frustrations over delayed payments spanning several months.
As part of ongoing reforms, the government has reduced the producer price for the remaining 2025/2026 crop season. The new rate has been set at GH¢41,392 per tonne, or GH¢2,587 per bag, aimed at protecting farmers amid declining global cocoa prices.

Additionally, COCOBOD revealed plans to save an estimated GH¢5 million monthly through salary reductions for executives and senior staff. Under the scheme, executive management will take a 20% pay cut, while senior staff will have 10% deducted from their salaries.
These measures are already in effect and will continue for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop year.
The board said the steps are part of broader strategies to address liquidity challenges within the cocoa industry and ensure timely payments to farmers and LBCs.
