A 20-year-old seamstress apprentice, Gifty Aba Otuba, has died after being hit by a motorbike at Gomoa Biakoye on the Kasoa–Winneba Highway in the Central Region.

The incident occurred as Gifty attempted to cross the stretch of road, which is currently under construction. According to her parents, who are fishmongers, they had asked her to deliver smoked fish to customers on the opposite side of the highway.

Speaking to Adom News, her grieving parents recounted that she was midway across the road when a motorbike traveling from Fetteh Kakraba towards Kasoa struck her. She died instantly at the scene.

The motorbike rider reportedly sustained critical injuries and is currently in a coma at St. Gregory Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Officers from the Awutu Bereku Police Command conveyed Gifty’s body to the same hospital, where it has been deposited at the mortuary pending further investigations.

The tragedy has reignited concerns about safety along the Kasoa–Winneba Highway, particularly at sections undergoing construction.

Reacting to the incident, Gomoa East District Traders and Artisan Coordinator James Donkoh appealed to contractors working on the project to intensify safety measures. He urged the construction firm to reshape dangerous portions of the road and accelerate work to reduce accidents and protect both motorists and pedestrians.

Residents lamented that the area has become increasingly risky, particularly for traders and schoolchildren who frequently cross the highway to access markets and workplaces.
