The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured the public that measures will be taken to strengthen security systems at health facilities following the theft of a baby from Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra.

“We are going to work with the Ministry of Health to ensure that the systems and structures we have in place are secure enough for patients and health workers,” she stated, emphasizing the need for enhanced safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The infant, reportedly stolen from the facility on February 18 in the Ablekuma South Constituency, has since been safely recovered following a swift operation by the Ghana Police Service. A female suspect is currently in custody, assisting with investigations.

The incident prompted an immediate response from police after hospital authorities and the child’s family reported the matter. Officers launched a search operation that led to the safe rescue of the baby. Authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity as investigations continue.

Officials say inquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the suspect allegedly gained access to the child.

The Gender Minister reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to reinforce security protocols and protect vulnerable patients across the country.
