A newborn allegedly stolen from Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra has been safely recovered, thanks to a timely tip-off from a whistleblower, the Gender Minister, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has confirmed.
Speaking to the public shortly after the infant was retrieved, Madam Lartey said both the baby and mother are safe and receiving medical attention.
She added that the police ensured proper identification of the child before reuniting him with his mother.
Madam Lartey commended the swift collaboration between the whistleblower, Ablekuma South MP Alfred Nii Lante Vanderpuye, and the police in locating the baby.
Though the suspect is in police custody, the Gender Minister said the Ministry will provide support to determine the motive behind the alleged kidnapping.
She also emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening security in medical facilities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Investigations into the case have since commenced.
