Mankrado of Sokode, Togbe Wusu Krakani II, has urged chiefs within the Sokode Traditional Area to prioritize resolving chieftaincy disputes through the Traditional Council rather than resorting to the courts.

He noted that prolonged court cases drain financial resources that could otherwise be invested in education and community welfare. “Peace and unity among traditional leaders are critical for development,” he emphasized.

Togbe Wusu Krakani II also encouraged residents to take full advantage of the educational opportunities in Sokode, which is home to two senior high schools and a university, urging parents and guardians to support their children in benefiting from these institutions.

Speaking on behalf of the Sokode Traditional Area, Paramount Chief Togbe Fia Korku III recounted the area’s historical journey in traditional governance. He explained that Sokode was previously under the Asogli Traditional Council, where chiefs rotated attendance at meetings of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.

He said the rotational arrangement was strongly opposed by many Sokode chiefs, who believed the area was autonomous and deserved independent representation. Togbe Fia Korku III revealed that Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, played a pivotal role in advocating for Sokode’s recognition.

“Through Togbe Afede’s intervention, Sokode was granted its own Traditional Council and representation at the Regional House of Chiefs,” he said, urging chiefs and residents to leverage this autonomy to promote unity, peace, and socio-economic development.

The statements were made during the first traditional area meeting of the Sokode Traditional Council, a key step in strengthening governance and development planning within the area.
