Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two suspects following the discovery of the body of a 28-year-old man, identified as Yaw Asamoah, in an abandoned gold pit at Abrense in the Amansie West District.
According to eyewitnesses, Asamoah was last seen at a wake-keeping event in the community, where he reportedly engaged in a heated confrontation with a group of commercial sex workers over a missing amount of GHC 1,000.
His disappearance soon after the altercation raised concerns among residents, leading to a search that ended tragically when his lifeless body was found in the disused mining pit.
Police have since taken two individuals into custody to assist with investigations, though their identities have not yet been disclosed.
The body has been deposited at a hospital morgue for autopsy as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Family members of the deceased have expressed shock and grief over the incident and are calling on the police to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
