Photos from the National Candlelight Vigil in honour of Daddy Lumba

Thousands of people gathered at Independence Square in Accra on Saturday, August 2, for a candlelight vigil in honor of highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

The event, organized by the Creative Arts Agency, served as a heartfelt tribute to a legendary artist whose music has continued to resonate with generations of Ghanaians.

The gathering attracted not only fans and fellow musicians but also dignitaries and members of the general public, all uniting in shared grief and reflection over the loss of an iconic figure in Ghana’s music history.

Dressed in black to symbolize their mourning, participants lit candles and sang along to Daddy Lumba’s timeless hits, creating a warm atmosphere filled with nostalgia and a celebration of his extraordinary career.

Tributes poured in, reflecting the profound loss felt by fans mourning a true music legend.

Some of Daddy Lumba’s most beloved songs, including “Yemfa Odo,” “Sika Asem,” “Sika,” “Yɛne Wo Sere Kwa,” “Mepaebo,” “Akwanoma,” “Ɛyɛ N’adom,” and “Makra Mo,” echoed powerfully throughout the vigil.

The event was graced with performances from celebrated artists such as Rev. Thomas Yawson, Kwabena Kwabena, Apioko Abbey, Andy Dosty, among others—each adding to the emotional tapestry of the evening while honoring Daddy Lumba’s indelible legacy in the hearts of many.
