Bawku conflict: Government begins evacuation of students from Nalerigu

The Government of Ghana has announced the evacuation of students from Bawku, Nalerigu, and surrounding areas following intensified conflict in the region.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Sunday, July 27, 2025, the government explained that the recently imposed curfew is intended not only to restore peace but also to create a safe environment for evacuating students from affected educational institutions.

The statement, signed by Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye, disclosed that some students have been deliberately targeted amid the unrest, prompting swift action to safeguard their lives.

The evacuation and curfew measures follow an earlier directive by the Ministry of the Interior and form part of broader government efforts to stabilise the region.

The statement reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting students and restoring calm across the conflict-hit areas.
