The Accra High Court has granted an application filed by Kwabena Brefo to join the ongoing injunction case concerning the life celebration of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

The ruling followed proceedings held on Thursday, May 14, during which the court approved the request for joinder, formally adding him to the suit.

Lawyers involved in the case explained that the court granted the application because of Kwabena Brefo’s new role as acting Abusuapanin of the Ekuona Royal Family, a position they argued makes him a necessary party for the court to better understand the issues before it and avoid possible bias in the proceedings.

Counsel further indicated that following the joinder, the legal team will seek the necessary orders to amend processes and officially serve the new Abusuapanin to enable him to file his defence.

The case has subsequently been adjourned to June 29, 2026, for further directions.

Kwabena Brefo, also known as Mr. Jones Kennedy Brefo, became acting head of the Ekuona Royal Family of Parkoso in the Ashanti Region in March 2026 following the customary removal of the previous family head, Victor Kofi Owusu Boahene, also known as Abusuapanyin Tupac.

His appointment was reportedly confirmed by the Chief of Parkoso and formally communicated to the family’s legal representatives as part of efforts to restore unity and provide new direction for the family after a period of internal disagreements.

As acting Abusuapanin, Brefo has also moved to discontinue an earlier High Court case originally filed by his predecessor against Akosua Serwaa Fosu and others.

The legal dispute is said to intersect with arrangements surrounding activities linked to the memorial and life celebration of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, a development that has generated significant public interest.

According to reports, Brefo’s decision to seek the withdrawal of the earlier suit reflects his position that the case no longer represents the collective stance of the family.
