The Minority Caucus in Parliament has distanced itself from the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, following reports of his detention in the Netherlands and an alleged investigation involving the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In a press statement dated May 13, 2026, the Minority Caucus said it respects the authority and jurisdiction of the United States government and its law enforcement agencies in handling the matter.

According to the statement, the caucus supports due process and has urged the FBI and all relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter.

“We urge the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and all relevant authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with the law, should he be found to have breached any laws,” the statement noted.

The caucus further stated that it was formally dissociating itself from the MP pending the outcome of investigations.

“We wish to state unequivocally that the Minority Caucus distances itself from the said MP pending the outcome of investigations. He does not speak for, act for, or represent the Minority Caucus in any capacity,” the statement added.

The Minority also claimed that prior to his election to Parliament, the Asante Akyem North MP had established business and political links with elements within the governing National Democratic Congress and its affiliates.

“These relationships are matters of public record. His past associations, dealings, and benefactions are personal to him and the NDC, not the Minority Caucus,” the statement said.

The caucus reiterated its commitment to integrity, accountability and ethical standards in public office, stressing that it would not shield any individual found culpable of wrongdoing regardless of political affiliation.

“We will continue to hold public officials to account, irrespective of party, and will not shield anyone from the consequences of their actions,” it stated.

The Minority Caucus also appealed to the public to allow the legal process to take its course.
