Ablekuma North re-run: We cannot deny Owusu Afriyie this victory – Mpraeso MP

The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has declared his unwavering support for Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie in the upcoming Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run, insisting she is poised to reclaim the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen show, Mr. Opoku emphasized the party’s strength in the constituency, pointing out the NPP’s dominance in 14 out of the 19 polling stations involved in the re-run.

“Everyone is present in the constituency, which indicates that we are prepared for the elections. They are not defying the orders of the national council by participating in the election. I believe that if the council had the opportunity to meet again, they would reconsider their decision,” he said.

“If you look at the data, it shows that the NPP is strong in 14 out of the 19 polling stations. As a minority, we need the presence of Akua Afriyie in Parliament. Moving forward as a political party, we propose to the Electoral Commission ways to reform our electoral system.”

Mr. Opoku also dismissed fears of sanctions for supporting the re-run, calling on party supporters to turn out in their numbers to secure victory.

“We have been winning elections in this constituency, so what is there to fear? What do we gain by boycotting the election? We cannot deny Owusu Afriyie the chance to represent the people. She will win if we all come out tomorrow and vote for her.”

He further stated: “We are prepared to face any consequences if the party believes we are doing something wrong by supporting the election re-run. We are determined to secure victory tomorrow. She is going to win the elections, so let’s join hands and ensure her success.”
