A video believed to be the final media interview of the late Akwatia Member of Parliament (MP), Ernest Yaw Kumi, has emerged following news of his death.
Appearing as a panelist on Adom TV’s Badwam on Friday, July 4, 2025, the first-time MP voiced deep frustration over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency.
He questioned the rationale behind the decision, asking whether the National Democratic Congress (NDC) must win every seat from the 2024 general elections.
“Left to me alone, we should boycott the election and let the NDC take it. Why are we, the NPP, going through this kind of terror and punishment?” he lamented.
Mr Kumi went on to describe the challenges the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had faced since the NDC’s December 7, 2024 victory, including what he termed unjust treatment of party members.
He cited his own legal battle over the Akwatia seat, insisting he won legitimately and should not have had to endure such stress.
Mr Kumi tragically passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. The cause of death has not yet been made public.
Meanwhile, the NPP and his bereaved family are yet to issue an official statement, although tributes have started pouring in from constituents, colleagues, and political figures.
