Former West Ham United chief scout Mick Brown has hinted that Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus could leave the club during the summer transfer window.
Kudus, who joined West Ham in August 2023 on a five-year deal with an option for a further year, has been heavily linked with moves to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown suggested that despite Kudus’ talent, a transfer is on the horizon.
“It looks like Kudus will be leaving West Ham,” he said. “There’s been plenty of interest in him, but clubs won’t pay £80 million. They’ll negotiate a lower fee, which West Ham might accept since it’s still a significant amount.”
Brown, who also served as a long-time scout for Manchester United, acknowledged Kudus’ potential but raised concerns about his consistency.
“Honestly, I have concerns about his consistency—he didn’t have the best season. But these clubs believe they can unlock his potential.”
He confirmed Chelsea’s interest, noting that the Blues, under new manager Enzo Maresca, are keen to bolster their squad.
“Chelsea are among the latest to pursue him, and Tottenham are also in talks. Chelsea seem willing to spend heavily. With Joao Pedro signed and Jamie Gittens targeted, they’re not stopping there.
“Kudus has fans at Stamford Bridge who want more attacking options. So, despite my reservations, clubs are eager to sign him, recognizing his obvious talent if used well.”
Kudus impressed in his debut Premier League season, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists across all competitions. However, his performance dipped last season, managing just five goals.
The 24-year-old is currently on holiday in Ghana.
