The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended a notorious armed robbery gang believed to be responsible for a string of violent home invasions across the region.
The suspects were arrested in a coordinated, intelligence-led operation conducted by rapid response teams from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) District and the Regional Operations Unit. This operation, backed by information from the Police Intelligence Department (PID), culminated in the arrests on Friday, June 27, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m.
During the operation, a suspect sustained gunshot wounds in an exchange of fire with police and later died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). Another key suspect, Yahaya Nuhu, remains at large, with a manhunt currently underway.
Those arrested include Kwadwo Kyei Baffour (39), Joseph Oppong (alias Joe, 30), and Bernard Owusu Ansah (alias Hot Boy, 27). Kwadwo Kyei Baffour has confessed to involvement in the robberies and admitted to raping a victim during one incident.
Additional suspects taken into custody are Kwadwo Konadu (28), James Asare Boateng (26), Emmanuel Asiedu (27), Maxwell Gyimah (30), and Daniel Dwumor. Bernard Owusu Ansah is currently receiving medical treatment under armed police guard at KATH.
The gang is linked to numerous armed robberies in areas including Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Denkyembuoso, Appiadu, and surrounding communities.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects, armed with pump-action guns, pistols, and other weapons, forcibly entered homes, held residents hostage, and stole large sums of money alongside electronics and valuables.
Recovered items include multiple laptops, tablets, mobile phones, wristwatches, television sets, WiFi routers, and three vehicles—a Kia Morning and two Toyota Corollas with registration numbers GX 4388-19 and AS 4777-22.
