We didn’t expect tough game against Golden Kick – Kwame Opoku

-

Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku has admitted that the team underestimated the challenge posed by lower-tier side Golden Kick FC, despite their eventual victory in the MTN FA Cup final.

Opoku opened the scoring for the Porcupine Warriors and later sealed the win with a late goal from the penalty spot, handing Kotoko a 2-1 triumph.

Golden Kick’s Bless Ege pulled one back with a stunning free-kick, providing a moment of hope for the underdogs.

Although Kotoko lifted the trophy, Opoku acknowledged the strength and resilience of their opponents.

“I am very happy [we won] because we never thought they would give us a game like this. They played very well,” he told Joy Sports.
“In all, we give thanks to God [for the victory].”

The trophy marks Opoku’s first major silverware with Kotoko, a milestone he holds dear.

“I am a happy man because in my first season, I wanted to do something for Asante Kotoko and unfortunately, I left.
So in my second stint, I needed to prove a point; to do something for my darling club,” he added.

With this triumph, Asante Kotoko clinched their 10th FA Cup title and secured a spot in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
