Gov’t to evacuate Ghanaians from Iran

-

The government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has revealed plans to evacuate all Ghanaians in Iran in the wake of the turmoil with Israel.

The sector Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced this in a post on social media on Monday, June 16, 2025.

He noted that the evacuation will be carried out through Iran’s land borders, covering all Ghanaian nationals, including diplomats, students, professionals, and other residents.

Emphasising the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of every Ghanaian, regardless of their location, he assured that the developments in Israel are being closely monitored, with guidance to be provided in due course.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s embassy in Tehran, Iran, has been closed with immediate effect to guarantee the safety of diplomatic staff.

The deadly Israel-Iran conflict has entered its fourth day, with both sides launching fresh missile attacks overnight, despite growing international calls for diplomacy and de-escalation.

Reports indicate that Iran’s early Monday strikes hit an Israeli oil refinery and damaged part of the power grid.
