NSA scandal: I'm ready to clear my name in court – Mustapha Ussif

Former Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Mustapha Ussif, has denied any involvement in the GH¢548 million payroll fraud scandal.

In a statement, the Yagaba-Kubori MP stated that he served from 2017 to 2020 with diligence, integrity and is ready to account for his stewardship.

“That said, it is my fervent belief that once you hold public office, you should at all material times, and at whatever cost, be ready, willing, and able to account for your stewardship. Therefore, I wish to state that I am ready, willing, and able to account for my stewardship at the National Service Scheme (NSS) from February 2017 to January 6, 2021,” he said.

This comes after the Attorney-General, Dominic Ayine, named Mr. Ussif among 12 people set to face prosecution over an alleged fraud while they served at the NSA.

At a press conference on Friday, Dr. Ayine disclosed that investigations had been concluded into what he described as “a well-organised network of corruption” within the Authority. He confirmed that prosecution dockets are being finalised.

Declaring his innocence and urging calm among his supporters, Mr. Ussif said he welcome the opportunity to clear his name.

“Consequently, I welcome any opportunity to do so including but not limited to having my day in a Court of competent jurisdiction.

“I therefore urge all well-wishers, friends family, constituents, members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the general public to be calm, knowing very well that I have, throughout my public life, served with diligence and honesty,” he noted.
