U-20 AFCON: Jerry Afriyie returns for Egypt clash

-

Ghana forward Jerry Afriyie has rejoined the Black Satellites ahead of their crucial U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinal clash against host nation Egypt on Monday, May 12, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed.

Afriyie featured in Ghana’s opening two group matches against DR Congo and Senegal before returning to his club, CD Lugo, to play in their weekend fixture against Gimnastic.

He made a notable impact, scoring in Lugo’s 1-1 draw on Saturday.

As a result of his club commitment, the forward missed Ghana’s final Group C game against the Central African Republic, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Black Satellites, courtesy of a goal from Joseph Amankwaah Opoku.

Now back in camp, Afriyie is expected to be in the starting lineup for Monday’s high-stakes encounter at the New Suez Stadium, with kickoff set for 15:00 GMT.

Victory over Egypt would secure Ghana a spot at the 2025 U-20 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to be held in Chile later this year.
