General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed his party doesn’t trust officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a free and fair election.

“Nothing will convince any NDC person that the EC will be neutral due to some utterances by some of its top officials,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday.

Mr Asiedu Nketia’s comment follows calls on political parties to protect the integrity of the EC ahead of the December polls.

Those who have made the appeal argue that any mistrust between the political parties and the elections management body could spell doom for the country.

But Asiedu Nketia has said the protection of one’s integrity or credibility relied primarily on the conduct of the individual or institution.

He cited the conduct of the Deputy Commissioner of the EC, Dr Bossman Asare, who he says has always supported the position of the ruling party when he is supposed to be a neutral person, to buttress his point.

General Mosquito, as he is popularly called, said the EC can only attract respect and honour from the political parties by undertaking its activities in a transparent manner.

Using the IPAC meeting as an example, the NDC man said the EC takes unilateral positions against his party’s interest.

Mr. Nketia thus served notice that the NDC would be vigilant in the 2020 elections to ensure it is not shortchanged.
