Four persons have been arrested for stealing railway tracks at Obom near Amasaman in the Greater Accra region.

The four suspects were apprehended around midnight while cutting rails belonging to the Ghana Railway Company.

Confirming the incident, the Amasaman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt Christopher Klomegah, said some witnesses notified the patrol team about the crime around 12:15 am.

According to him, they laid ambush and apprehended them and afterward handed them over to the police.

He explained 40 pieces of the rails were retrieved from a truck with 48 others still in the bush, adding the Railway company has been notified to assist with investigations.

The company is to help the police know the value of the metals to facilitate prosecution.
