Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed confidence that his team will continue to develop as the 2026 FIFA World Cup progresses, following their opening victory over Panama.
Ghana began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win in a tightly contested Group L fixture, where both sides appeared destined for a draw until Caleb Yirenkyi struck late on.
The decisive moment came when he finished from a Brandon Thomas-Asante cross deep into stoppage time, sealing all three points for the four-time African champions.
Speaking after the match, Queiroz highlighted the ongoing evolution of his squad and the tactical adjustments being made.
“We are growing as a team,” he said. “We are playing a different system, and our attacking methods are built around the profile of our players.
“We want vertical football and full-speed action. Step by step, the players will improve and adjust to each other,” Queiroz added.
The result leaves Ghana second in Group L, behind England, who made a strong start with a 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening fixture.
Attention now turns to a crucial clash with England at Gillette Stadium on June 23, before the Black Stars conclude their group-stage matches against Croatia four days later.
With three points already secured, Queiroz’s side will look to build on their winning start as they target a return to the knockout stages for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
