The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South in the Ahafo Region, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to designate the district as a police command to strengthen security and improve policing in the area.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News at Hwidiem, Mr Donkor expressed concern over what he described as rising criminal activities in the district, attributing the situation partly to the absence of a dedicated district police command.
According to him, Asutifi South meets all the requirements for a district police command, yet the Police Administration has not officially granted it that status.

He explained that the district has already constructed and commissioned a police command facility together with a bungalow intended for a district police commander, but no commander has been posted to the area.
“The district has constructed and commissioned a district police command with a bungalow for a district police commander, but up to date the Police Administration has not named the district as a police command and has also not posted a commander,” he stated.
Mr Donkor noted that Asutifi North and Asutifi South currently operate under one police command, a situation he said is affecting security operations in his district.
He explained that whenever incidents requiring additional police personnel occur, Asutifi South has to depend on officers from Asutifi North and Goaso, which often delays response times.
According to the DCE, creating a separate police command for Asutifi South would enhance law enforcement efforts and improve the safety of residents.
He further disclosed that the Member of Parliament for the area, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has already engaged the IGP on the matter.
Mr Donkor said he is adding his voice to the call and urged the Police Administration to act on the request as a matter of urgency to strengthen security in the district.
