Coach of the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe, remains hopeful despite her side’s 1-0 defeat to host Ivory Coast in the opening game of the ongoing WAFU Women’s Championship.
The Queens played some good football but all attempts to find an equalizer proved futile as the game ended in favour of the Ivoirians.
However, Mercy is very optimistic going into their next game against a Niger side that also lost their opening game to Burkina Faso.
“As a coach, I’m not satisfied because my players couldn’t make good use of their Chances”, she told reporters after the game.
”The girls played all the game but couldn’t convert their chances into goals; this means we have to pay a lot more attention to our striking department in order not to repeat the same mistakes against our next opponent”, she said.
Ghana will be hosting the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON), so the expectation for us is very high”. We are very hopeful and ready to win our next game convincingly’, she added.
Ghana is using the tournament as part of its preparations for the 2018 African Women’s Nations Cup tournament as competition hosts.
