Ten suspected Nigerian commercial sex workers have been arrested by the Bibiani police for allegedly engaging in commercial sex work at Chirano in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
Speaking to the media, the Municipal Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), ASP Evelyn Ayinati Yitamkey, confirmed the incident.
She stated that the suspects admitted that they willingly came to Ghana to engage in the activity.
Meanwhile, the DOVVSU coordinator explained that prostitution is contrary to the laws of Ghana. She added that the police are collaborating with the Ghana Immigration Service to facilitate the repatriation of the suspects to their home country.
ASP Yitamkey also cautioned landlords and property owners against renting their premises for criminal activities.
She warned that if tenants are arrested for engaging in criminal acts, landlords who knowingly permit such activities could be considered accomplices and may also face arrest and prosecution.
