Fake soldier arrested for allegedly extorting money in Ashaiman

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a soldier and extorting money from unsuspecting persons in Ashaiman.

The suspect, identified as Bright Atsu Kudiabor, was arrested by the Ashaiman Police on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m. at an area known as “I Shall Return”.

According to the Police, Kudiabor, an ex-convict, was allegedly parading himself as a soldier and collecting money from members of the public.

He was initially apprehended by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service with assistance from other persons and subsequently handed over to the Police.

A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a set of military camouflage uniform.

Kudiabor is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations and will be processed for court after investigations are completed.

The Tema Regional Police Command has cautioned the public to remain vigilant and report persons who falsely present themselves as soldiers or members of other security agencies to deceive or extort money.
