The Chief of the Zabrama Community in Kpando, Alhaji Abdul Rafiu Salifu, has donated relief items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to over 160 inmates of the Kpando Local Prison as part of efforts to support vulnerable members of society.

The donation formed part of his humanitarian and philanthropic initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of persons in custody.

The items included 12 bundles of roofing sheets, two bags of sugar, 100 sachets of purified drinking water, 10 boxes of soap, 10 packs of toilet rolls, five packs of antiseptics, and 35 “booters” for Muslim inmates to support their prayers.

Presenting the items, Alhaji Abdul Rafiu Salifu said the gesture was intended to improve living conditions in the prison and show love and compassion to inmates serving their sentences.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the chief noted that supporting inmates forms part of his long-standing commitment to giving back to society and assisting people in need.

According to him, prison inmates remain members of society and deserve care, encouragement, and support to help them reform and successfully reintegrate into their communities after serving their terms.

He urged individuals, corporate organizations, religious bodies, and philanthropists to extend support to correctional facilities across the country to help address some of their pressing needs.

Alhaji Abdul Rafiu Salifu seized the opportunity to thank the leadership and members of the Kpando Zabrama community for their continuous commitment and support in mobilising the items for the inmates.

Officer Incharge of Kpando Local Prison, Chef Superintendent Evans Abogro, expressed gratitude to the chief for the generous donation, describing it as timely and beneficial. He noted that the items would go a long way in improving the welfare of inmates and easing some of the challenges confronting the facility.

Chef Superintendent Evans Abogro seized the opportunity to call on the public to emulate the kind gesture of the chief.

The donation reflects the growing role of traditional leaders in supporting social development and promoting the welfare of disadvantaged groups within their communities.
