Socialite Abu Trica may currently be outside Ghana dealing with legal matters linked to an alleged $8 million romance scam in the United States, but his name remains firmly in the spotlight back home.
This time, however, the controversy has little to do with the allegations against him.
Instead, attention has shifted to his girlfriend, Queenie, after a video circulating on social media captured her in the company of Detse, a close friend of Abu Trica.
In the video, Detse is seen planting a peck on Queenie’s cheek, a seemingly familiar gesture that quickly became fodder for speculation among social media users.
Given Abu Trica’s current situation, the footage triggered a wave of reactions, with some netizens questioning the nature of Queenie’s relationship with his friend and describing the encounter as a possible betrayal.
Amid the backlash, Queenie has responded, insisting that her friendship with Detse did not begin because of Abu Trica. According to her, Detse was already part of her circle long before she began dating the socialite.
She dismissed the claims of betrayal, explaining that the two were mutual friends and that she had known them since 2015.
“I’ve known them since 2015, and Detse was already one of my closest people even before I started dating Abu. The funny part is, Detse didn’t even know about it at the time,” she posted.
The debate has since produced a string of reactions, opinions and think pieces across social media.
The controversy has nevertheless pushed Abu Trica’s name back into Ghana’s social media spotlight, trending number 1 on X (formerly Twitter).
