The Deputy Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Lawyer Simon Appiah Junior, has described football as a common language that brings Ghanaians together despite their differences.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s match against The Gambia today, Lawyer Appiah said football has a unique ability to unite people from different backgrounds and communities.
“We have many languages, many traditions, and many points of view,” he said. “But when the ball hits the net and Ghana scores, nobody asks where the person next to them is from. We all jump, shout, and hug at the same moment,” he said.
He said the unity displayed during football matches is something Ghanaians should celebrate and draw lessons from in their everyday lives.
“If a football match can make us forget our differences for an afternoon, then those differences were never as big as we thought.”
Lawyer Appiah urged Ghanaians to take the spirit of togetherness seen in the stadium beyond football, stressing the need for mutual respect regardless of circumstances.
“Respect for one another should not depend on a scoreline.”
He also called on Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars and support the team with pride.
“This team belongs to all of us, and that is exactly why all of us should be behind it.”
