Dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has added his voice to the ongoing campaign by industry players to dominate the airwaves with Ghanaian songs.

Shatta Wale has, in series of videos, urged the government to pass a Legislative Instrument (LI) which will control foreign songs played on various radio and TV stations across the country.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Tuesday, Shatta Wale reiterated his call, asking that the government shifts focus from 80 per cent to 95 per cent Ghanaian songs since that will protect the image of Ghana’s culture.

“I want it to be 95 per cent Ghanaian music. We have to try and grow our culture. People are getting misled. I don’t think we should even accept any music. Our musicians need to get rich… Let’s try and let the government know we are ready. They think we are not. We have some loopholes we need to study. I have been talking to the people in government…”

Some people believe this assertion stems from the fact that some Ghanaian top artistes including Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy received low reception during a recent Zylofon Concert held in Nigeria.

Shatta Wale is currently promoting his yet-to-be released album dubbed: “The Reign” on October 13, 2018.
