Ghanaian musician and political activist, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly called A-Plus has urged the incumbent government to re-examine laws on the use of marijuana in the country.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s flagship programme, Eko Sii Sen, A-Plus said jailing someone for “one roll” of marijuana for 10-year amounted to “misusing” the taxpayer’s money.

A-Plus, who has, on several occasions, discarded the notion that he smoked marijuana, wondered why the government wouldn’t also decriminalize locally brewed alcohol, “Akpeteshie” and also ban cigarettes since records show they kill more people than marijuana does.

“You can take a gallon of Akpeteshie, cigarettes and go scot-free but someone with a little leaf will go to prison for ten years. We need to review these laws in Ghana”, A Plus noted.
