The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Asiedu, has strongly denied allegations that he and other party officials stormed Obaatanpa Radio in Kasoa, sacked workers and locked up the station.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Midday News, Mr. Asiedu described the claims as untrue and explained what actually transpired.
“I am not an MCE to close down a radio station, so it’s not true,” he said.
He explained that he travelled from Cape Coast to Kasoa after the station continued dragging his name into internal party issues on TikTok.
“We were just going to have discussions, know the source of the information and decide the way forward,” he noted.
Mr. Asiedu insisted they did not sack any worker or lock the station.
“It is never true that we sacked the workers and locked the station. When the guys started moving in, we called the police, but they were not coming. So to ensure the safety of all of us, I asked one of the station workers to lock the studio himself, and it was shortly after that the police came. The keys were with the worker,” he explained.
He said the group only wanted to engage the management of the station over what he described as two weeks of provocative reportage, but the situation escalated due to the station’s hostile attitude.
Mr. Asiedu maintained that the NDC remains a peaceful party, and he acted in his capacity as Regional Chairman to protect the party’s image in the Central Region.
