Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organiser, Joshua Akamba, has made strong allegations that some people are using public offices for dirty and corrupt dealings, although he did not mention names.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Akamba revealed he was heavily pressured to take up certain high-profile positions after the party’s election victory because of the financial gains attached to them, but he firmly refused.
“Yesterday I said something: people use some offices to do some dirty things. After we won the election, people were pushing me to go for certain positions because there was money there, but I didn’t,” he stated.
Akamba explained that he made a personal vow not to enter any position with a corrupt mindset, and his observations since then have confirmed his fears.
“I vowed that I would not go there with that mindset, and I have seen some people there, and I now realise why things are the way they are,” he said.
He added that taking such a position would have exposed him to even harsher criticism from his supporters, since he would have refused to participate in the alleged shady practices.
“Unfortunately for my followers, if I had taken up that position, people would have hit me more because I wouldn’t have done that,” Akamba noted.
He also recalled personal sacrifices, mentioning advice from his ex-wife about the financial benefits he was missing.
“I remember my ex-wife used to tell me that our house would have been filled with money if I loved money,” he said.
Akamba insisted that his commitment to fighting corruption and standing for the truth is not new. He cited his long-standing support for former President John Dramani Mahama as part of this principled stance.
“You know this fighting for the truth, it didn’t start today. Even for President Mahama, I have fought for him because of the truth.”
