I am not afraid to leave parliament because when I leave, Ghanaians should be worried about my constituents and not me, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has said.

“You go to Parliament and recommend my sack. If you know what I can do those two months I will be out of Parliament. They shouldn’t worry about me but my constituents” he stated.

Kennedy Agyapong’s comment comes on the back of a recent outburst which landed him before the Privileges Committee.

Parliament could not take a decision on the fate of Mr Agyapong who had been cited in an alleged contemptuous statement against the House.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong was said to have described Parliament as a ‘cheap’ and ‘useless’ Institution.

Appearing before the committee on July 23, the Assin Central MP completely denied that he used ‘useless’ to describe Parliament but admitted that he used the word ‘cheap’ to describe the Institution.

The Assin Central MP unreservedly apologised to MPs and the Institution when he appeared before the committee for using the word ‘cheap’ to describe the Parliament of Ghana.

But speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show Badwam” Tuesday, the outspoken MP could not understand why the Privileges Committee will recommend either his suspension or reprimand when he had apologized to parliament.

Though Parliament rose for recess without any final decision taken on Ken Agyapong’s case, Mr Agyapong says he has nothing to worry as a businessman because he is capable of taking good care of himself.

He rather asked Ghanaians to be worried about his constituents who, according to him, are the ones urging him to stay a little longer in the house.

“But who said I will be worried when I’m out of parliament. Ghanaians should worry for my people in my constituency because they are begging me not to go,” he said.

This notwithstanding, Mr Agyapong said he will still engage his constituents if he is suspended.
