It has emerged that the Ministry of Energy bought one steel tubular pole for over GH₵42 million cedis from Wendy Rose Company Limited.
The company, according to the Auditor General’s report was awarded a contract of GH₵33,978,750 in December 2014 to supply Steel Tubular Poles.

But after partially supplying the steel poles, officials at the Ministry of Energy in request to Ministry of Finance asserted that government was indebted to the company an amount of GH₵15,290,437.50.
The steel poles under the ECG-funded projects are to replace all the wooden poles, especially those in the bush and isolated communities described as ‘hot spots’.

The wooden poles are at risk of destruction from bush fires especially during the dry season, hence their replacement.
The contractors are engaged in the exercise, which involves transferring electricity cables from the wooden poles to the steel tubular ones.

Host of Adom FM’s anti-corruption segment, Fabewoso on Dwaso Nsem, Captain Smart expressed shock at the outrageous amount the steel poles was procured.
He noted that, the steel pole is sold at most GH₵2000 thus Ghanaians have been shortchanged.
Captain Smart appealed to the Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko to review the contract and punish the culprits involved.
