Asamoah Gyan has urged Ghana’s U-20 women’s team to keep believing in themselves after their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign ended at the group stage.
The Black Princesses bowed out of the tournament in Poland after a 4-0 defeat to France in their final Group C match on Saturday, 12 September.
Ghana endured a difficult start with a 3-0 loss to Ecuador before reviving their hopes with an impressive 3-0 victory over South Korea. However, defeat to France meant they finished with three points and failed to progress to the knockout stages.
Despite the early exit, Ghana’s ambassador for the national teams and Colts football believes the players showed enough quality to suggest a promising future lies ahead.
Speaking to the squad after their elimination, Gyan, the country’s all time leading goalscorer encouraged the players not to lose hope.
“There are more opportunities,” he said. “I know some of you will be asking yourselves, ‘Where do we go from here? What are we going to do?’ But I can assure you that nobody knows tomorrow.”
The former Black Stars captain urged the players to remain committed to their development, insisting their performances deserved recognition even if the results fell short of expectations.
“Just have faith in yourself. Keep on doing your training. Keep your faith high.
“I’m sure the future is bright because of the way you’ve performed from day one till now. Nobody can say anything bad, but we didn’t get the result we wanted.”
Gyan ended his message with a rallying call for the team to use the disappointment as motivation for the future.
“We are out, but we are not done. From here, we think about ourselves. We think about how we are going to come back stronger.”
