New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Subin in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye has advised the government to desist from implementing the mandatory the vehicular ‘Tow Levy’.
Passed in 2012, the LI 2180 was given five years fallow period after which it would jump to life in 2017.
With two weeks to its implementation, the new regulation has been met with public disapproval.
In an interview, the legislator proposed to the government to implement the Legislative Instrument (LI) but should not make it compulsory.
He cited how drivers are killed due to broken-down vehicles on roads as the reason why the policy should be passed.
“I don’t think it should be compulsory but if the police come and tow, you will pay a penalty. We should take time to allow this. Parked cars have killed a lot of people it has an impact but the necessary thing is it should not be compulsory…” he explained.
