The Tijaniya Muslims Council of Ghana has officially launched the 50th anniversary celebration of the Maulid of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani, with a renewed commitment to promoting education and empowering young people in Zongo communities.
The launch, held at Prang in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region, was themed “Building a Legacy of Sheikh Maiksnu: Educational Factor.” The event brought together Islamic scholars, traditional leaders, community members, and members of the Tijaniya Muslim fraternity.
As part of activities marking the golden jubilee celebration, the Council announced plans to build a school in Prang to provide quality education for children and young people in Zongo communities. The initiative is aimed at equipping the youth with knowledge and skills while helping to reduce social vices and negative perceptions often associated with some Zongo communities.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Alhaji Ali Shuraj, a financier to the Jallo fraternity and council member of SAMJEC, stressed that education remains one of the most effective tools for transforming lives and creating opportunities for future generations.
He noted that investing in schools and educational infrastructure would empower young people to become responsible citizens and contribute meaningfully to national development.

He further explained that the proposed school forms part of efforts to preserve the educational legacy of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani and encourage both Islamic and secular learning among the youth.
The vice chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Siiba Yakubu, commended the initiative and called on government agencies, corporate institutions, philanthropists, and members of the Muslim community to support the project to ensure its successful completion.
The 50th anniversary Maulid celebration is expected to feature a series of religious, educational, and community development activities, highlighting the enduring teachings and legacy of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani while promoting unity, peace, and education across Ghana.
