The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has directed drivers operating under the VIP transport service to immediately relocate their vehicles from beneath the Kwame Nkrumah Flyover to the ATTC yard.
The directive, issued on Monday, June 29, follows concerns over public safety amid heavy flooding that has affected parts of the capital.
According to the Mayor, the relocation is intended to prevent potential accidents and ensure the free movement of emergency and rescue personnel responding to flood-related incidents across the city.
The area around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange has been one of the hardest-hit locations following hours of torrential rainfall, leaving roads inundated and disrupting both vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Hon. Allotey stressed that keeping buses parked under the flyover poses a safety risk to passengers, drivers, and other road users, especially as floodwaters continue to rise in parts of the metropolis.
He urged all VIP drivers and transport operators to comply with the directive without delay and relocate to the ATTC yard until conditions improve.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) said the measure forms part of broader efforts to safeguard lives and property while emergency agencies continue to monitor the flood situation and respond to distress calls across the city.
