Actor Kofi Ajorlolo has opened up about a two-year ban that was imposed on him by a group of Ghanaian producers, and why it was eventually reversed after only a few months.
According to the veteran, he became the first person to be subjected to such a ban and was used as a “sacrificial lamb” in the Ghanaian film industry.
Ajorlolo said the ban was meant to prevent him from working on productions in Ghana, but it did little to slow down his career because producers from neighbouring Nigeria were eager to have him on their projects.
He recalled that while the Ghanaian producers were attempting to shut him out, Nigerian producers were actively calling and pushing for him to perform in their productions.
The actor said the producers eventually reconsidered their decision after realizing that the ban was not achieving its intended purpose.
Although the initial punishment was supposed to last two years, Ajorlolo revealed that it was withdrawn after approximately six to eight months.
“After six months or eight months or so, they themselves just pulled that thing out that I should come back,” he recounted.
Looking back, Ajorlolo said the experience, though bitter, opened him up to opportunities cross the West African film industry.
