Tension is simmering in Kadjebi in the Oti Region following the installation of a new Queenmother and the prolonged process to select a new Omanhene after the death of the late Paramount Chief in 2018.

Residents say the unresolved chieftaincy matter, currently before the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, has lingered for years, creating uncertainty and heightening emotions within the traditional area.

Many in the community argue that the lack of a clear timeline for settlement has allowed suspicion and anxiety to grow, with factions interpreting developments differently and attributing motives to one another.

The Asona clan, which has petitioned the House, is urging that the case be expedited.

Members of the clan warn that continued delays could deepen mistrust and potentially threaten the peace Kadjebi is known for, especially as discussions around traditional authority remain sensitive and deeply tied to identity and community cohesion.

The situation took center stage at a stakeholders’ forum held in Kadjebi, where Joseph Kwadwo Ofori, a former Member of Parliament for Akan and a member of the Awuku, Dente and Yaw Ofori families of the Asona clan, addressed residents.

He said the forum was convened to update the public on the status of the petition and to address what he described as widespread misinformation and speculation circulating in the town.

Speaking with Adom News, some members of the Asona clan and residents echoed similar concerns, insisting that misinformation and competing narratives are contributing to the rising tension.

They said it has become increasingly important for residents to understand both the legal and customary processes involved, arguing that transparency and accurate public information are critical to rebuilding confidence and preventing the dispute from escalating.
