The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has officially handed over sites to contractors for the commencement of major renovation works at eight basic schools within the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools in Accra.

The intervention forms part of the Assembly’s 2026 proposed renovation programme aimed at improving infrastructure and creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The beneficiary schools include Central Mosque 1 & 2 Primary, Akoto Lante Basic, Amamomo 3 Ashia Mills JHS, Accra Presby Primary, Aayalolo 1 & 2 KG and Primary, Amamomo 1 & 2 JHS, Aayalolo 1 & 2 JHS, and Aayalolo 3 KG and Primary Schools.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Presiding Member of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Musah Ziyad, described the project as a long-awaited intervention for the Aayalolo Cluster, which has experienced years of limited renovation works.

He noted that this is the first major facelift the schools are receiving in several years, adding that repeated appeals had been made by Assembly Members over the poor state of infrastructure in the area.

Mr. Ziyad commended the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and his team for prioritising the project, saying it would significantly improve learning conditions for pupils.

A representative of the contractors assured that the renovation works would be executed to high standards, with the use of quality materials to ensure durability.

He pledged that the projects would be completed in a manner that guarantees long-term benefit for the schools and supports effective teaching and learning.

The renovation works are expected to begin immediately, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the intervention will transform educational delivery within the cluster of schools.
