The Tempane District Assembly has provided livelihood support to 69 persons with disabilities under the District Assembly Common Fund to help improve their economic independence and standard of living.
The beneficiaries received a mix of cash grants and income-generating items tailored to their individual needs and business plans.
The items presented included high-speed sewing machines, deep freezers, hair dryers, fertilizer and goats, alongside cash support ranging from GH¢2,500 to GH¢5,000.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the District Chief Executive for Tempane, Joseph Ayaaba Mbilla, urged them to make good use of the support and see it as an investment in their future.
“Use the support for its intended purpose. This is an investment in your future. Manage the resources wisely to improve your livelihoods, support your families, and contribute to the development of the district,” he advised.
According to the DCE, the intervention reflects government’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities through sustainable livelihood programmes that promote self-reliance.
The District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Andalah Abdul Rahman, explained that the beneficiaries were selected after a thorough assessment of their needs and proposed businesses.
He assured that the Assembly would continue to monitor and supervise the use of the items and cash grants to ensure the support achieves its intended purpose.
“The Department will continue to monitor and supervise the utilization of the items and cash grants to ensure they improve the living standards of the beneficiaries,” he said.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to Adom News described the intervention as a major boost to their livelihoods and expressed appreciation to the government and the Tempane District Assembly.
They pledged to use the support to expand their businesses, create sustainable income streams and improve the wellbeing of their families.
“We are grateful for this support. It will help us grow our businesses and take better care of our families,” one beneficiary said.
The Assembly says it will continue to roll out initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and promoting inclusive development within the district.
