Kenyan authorities react after video of woman breastfeeding dogs went viral https://www.adomonline.com/kenyan-authorities-react-after-video-of-woman-breastfeeding-dogs-went-viral/ Sun, 16 Oct 2022 14:18:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2172301 A video making rounds on social media which captured an unseen woman breastfeeding puppies has stirred reactions online.

The woman is allegedly a Kenyan domestic worker in Saudi Arabia and was reportedly forced to be breastfeeding her employer’s puppies.

In the video, the unknown woman is heard crying for help. She says that she has been in Saudi Arabia for two weeks by the time of recording the video.

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary in Kenya, General Francis Atwoli, reacting to the video, said he had information the said woman left Kenya for greener pastures two months after giving birth but she is being subjected to inhumane conditions.

At a press conference to address the disturbing video, he called on the government to ban all employment agencies overseeing migration of Kenyan workers to Saudi Arabia.

The COTU boss called for intergovernmental diplomacy to address the plight of Kenyans in Saudi Arabia and other gulf countries, adding that the incident is a case of “indirect slavery”.

Meanwhile, the Association of Skilled Migrant Agencies of Kenya (ASMAK) has dismissed the video, arguing that it is an edited scene from a pornographic site.

She further alleged that the video has been edited to drive a narrative that Kenyans are suffering in Saudi Arabia.

She, however, asserted that they were aware of cases of Kenyans being abused in Gulf countries saying they follow up on each case.

“We don’t deny that there are cases of rogue agencies, rogue domestic workers and even rogue officials. But most of the cases shared on social media and carried by mainstream media are not true. We do our due diligence and have contrary evidence to what is always shared.

“We as ASMAK always follow up on everything that happens under our watch and what we find out is totally different from what is reported,” she said further.

I was ignorant – Student nurse who ‘threatened to kill patients’ in viral video https://www.adomonline.com/i-was-ignorant-student-nurse-who-threatened-to-kill-patients-in-viral-video/ Thu, 18 Aug 2022 14:04:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2151077 A nursing student captured in a viral video threatening to kill her patients because she was forced into the profession says she did it for fun.

The student, Mubabatu Mohammed, says she saw the video trending on TikTok and decided to jump on it to exhibit her trend.

“The trend was from a Kenyan comic so when I saw it, I jumped on it. I first did the English version and posted it but my followers requested I do a Wali version for them to better enjoy the content which I did after several hours.

“Because it was about the nursing profession, I used my uniform but even deleted it not long after posting. Unfortunately on my part, some people had already downloaded it,” she said in an interview on Accra-based TV3.

This follows a statement from the Nurses and Midwifery Council (N&MC) which condemned the video, adding investigations have commenced.

But according to her, she has no intentions to kill her patients now or ever as captured in the viral content which has attracted a lot of backlash.

“Those words were not from my heart and I have no intentions of killing anyone. I was ignorant and I am very sorry about the video. I apologise to the Nursing and Midwifery Council for tarnishing our image,” she lamented.

Miss Mohammed indicated she has faced her school’s disciplinary committee and has also been summoned to appear before the N&MC committee.

Life after the video, she indicated, has been very hard for her due to the criticisms and she has been contemplating suicide to bring rest to the matter but for the support of friends, family and school authorities.
