According to a statement from the police, the incident occurred on February 22, 2026. The victim reported to the Fomena Police Station with a machete injury to his left toe, explaining that he had been attacked while returning from Old Ayaase after dropping off a passenger.

He told officers that about ten tricycle operators allegedly blocked a section of the road using their tricycles and other objects, preventing him from passing.

The group reportedly assaulted him, inflicted a cut on his leg, and fled with his unregistered Haojin motorbike, estimated to be worth GH¢15,000.

Police say they responded promptly to the complaint and arrested Adom Peter, Abdul Zakari, Andy Benjamin, and a juvenile suspect within Fomena township on the same day to assist with investigations.

During the operation, officers recovered the stolen Haojin motorbike, a machete believed to have been used in the attack, a tricycle machine, and its ignition keys.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reiterated its resolve to safeguard lives and property and encouraged members of the public to volunteer credible information to aid crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.

The truck, with registration number GT 5501-23, was travelling from Takoradi to Kumasi when it veered off the road into a ditch in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash that claimed the lives of two individuals on board.

The Fomena District Police, led by DSP Samson Wunyi Mumuni, responded promptly to the scene.

The bodies of the deceased have since been transported to the Adansi Fomena District Hospital mortuary as investigations continue into the cause of the crash.

Residents, alarmed by the recurring accidents on the stretch, have renewed calls for improved road safety. Many blame poor visibility and the absence of speed control measures for the frequent incidents, describing the area as an accident-prone zone.

According to information gathered by Adom News, Rockson was prospecting for gold at the site when the tragic incident occurred.

Police officers who examined the body reported that blood was oozing from his nose, raising concerns about the cause of death.

The body has since been deposited at the Fomena Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

His remarks come in light of the ongoing debate between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding who should be recognized as the majority in Parliament.

This comes after Speaker, Alban Bagbin, had earlier declared four parliamentary seats vacant, making the NDC the Majority in the House.

However, the NPP MPs challenged the Speaker’s decision in the Supreme Court, filing an ex-parte motion to stay execution of the declaration.

But Mr. Appiah-Kubi emphasized that Mike Oquaye’s decision in 2020 to declare the Fomena seat vacant was flawed.

“The Fomena MP should have gone to court to challenge Mike Oquaye’s ruling, but he chose not to.”

The MP also pointed out that a past wrong decision should not justify a similar mistake now, highlighting that the current case cannot be equated to Oquaye’s ruling.

Additionally, Appiah-Kubi warned that any parliamentarian who defies a court ruling could face severe consequences, including a 10-year imprisonment for high treason, and would be barred from contesting any political office for an additional 10 years after serving their sentence.

“No one is above the law. The Constitution is the supreme law, and it states clearly that anyone who defies a court ruling could face high treason charges, leading to 10 years in prison, followed by another 10 years of ineligibility to contest for any political position.”

A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Fomena constituency in the Ashanti Region, Akwasi Nti Asamoah, says its office has been repainted into the traditional colours.

Mr Asamoah explained this was through his own coordination with the help of other constituency executives.

“I left Kumasi for Fomena at about 2:00 am for us to repaint the building, I invited the party organisers and other executives who heeded to the call,” he said.

The repainting comes after some aggrieved supporters on Monday changed the Red, White and Blue building into Red, White, Green and Black, the traditional colours of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

They also embarked on a demonstration against A no polling station election in that area following the suspension of elections by the executives and posted stickers of former President John Mahama.

Reacting to the development, Mr Asamoah said it must be condemned in no uncertain terms.

Though he explained the building is his personal property which he is yet to officially transfer to the party, the group had no right to carry out such an act.

“The building is my property and I bought the land in 1997 to build stores but I gave it off to be used as a party office. I started in 1997 and completed in 2008 and we have been operating from there since.

“In due course, I will hand over the documents to officially transfer the property to the party,” he disclosed in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM.

Meanwhile, he added consultations are still ongoing to cool heads as tempers are still high among the disgruntled supporters.

The aggrieved group says it will reject any such move, stating it contradicts the constitution of the party.

They argued Article 3(9)(1) indicates: “A member of the party, or who stands as an Independent candidate against the officially elected member of the party, or joins or declares his or her support for another political party, or for an Independent candidate, when the party has sponsored candidate in a general election, automatically forfeits his or her membership of the party.”

Addressing a press conference, the coordinator, Michael Ankapong, said they have noticed with great concern attempts by some elements within the party hierarchy at the national level to impose the MP on them.

According to them, they suspect the plans underway are the reason for the suspension of the party’s elections in the constituency.

Demanding among other things transparency in the operations of the constituency, they also want a written explanation from the National Executives regarding the suspension of the elections and clarity on the purported decision to impose Mr Asiamah as an unopposed candidate.

“Failure to furnish us with responses to the aforementioned will leave us with no option than to embark on a peaceful demonstration against the party throughout Fomena constituency in the coming weeks, to demand transparency and accountability and for the right thing to be done,” the group threatened.

Lawyer Asiamah was the NPP MP for Fomena from 7th January 2017 until his seat was declared vacant on or around 7th November 2020.

This was after his declaration and filing of nomination forms to contest as an independent candidate in the 2020 election at a time when the party had duly elected a candidate.

Mr Asamoah in a statement said his decision is based on health grounds.

“Having served our dear party in various roles and capacity since 1992: Ward Youth Organizer, Ward Chairman, Youth Organizer, Constituency Chairman, it is time to take a bow and allow others to serve the party,” part of the statement read.

Mr. Asamoah added the decision has formally been communicated this decision to the Constituency, Regional and the National hierarchy.

The Chairman however assured his resignation will not stop him from contributing his quota towards the development of the party.

“Notwithstanding my resignation, I want to give the firmest assurance that I will continue to support the party in all capacity to and make it possible in consolidating the gains made since the formation of the NPP,” he noted.

Speaking to Adom News, spokesperson, Kwabena Anokye, disclosed he was attacked by five men on motorbikes on his way home after casting his vote at the Fomena Salvation Army polling station.

The men, he said, beat him with cutlass after dispossessing him of his money and phones.

Furthermore, Mr Anokye said prior to the abuse, some members of the opposition had threatened to deal with him following a clash that ensued between his party and some members of the New Patriotic Party.

The coordinator was quick to report the case to the Police Patrol team. Two of the five alleged perpetrators have so far been arrested.

The two suspects have been transferred to the district police station.

The Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye, has declared the Fomena seat vacant over the decision of its incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) to contest as an independent candidate in the 2020 election.

Prof Ocquaye made the announcement while addressing the House on Saturday, November 7, 2020.

The judgment comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wrote to the Speaker to expel the MP,  Andrew Amoako Asiamah.

He indicated his ruling was in accordance with Article 3(9) of the party’s constitution which was stated in a petition brought to him.

“With all intents and purposes, he is no longer a member of the party. He has pronounced himself publicly as an independent and has filed his papers to compete against the party in his official candidate as an independent on 7th December 2020.

“Having forfeited the membership of the party on whose ticket he was elected, to parliament, the operative language of the constitution is that he shall – which is mandatory – vacate his seat in Parliament”, he said.

The Speaker added the Electoral Commission will be notified of the development for the necessary action to be taken.

The MP opted to go independent after he was challenged and lost the party’s parliamentary primary to Philip Ofori Asante.

Despite the President’s continuous plea for him to rescind his decision to contest the seat as an independent candidate, Mr Amoako maintained his mind was already made up.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Fomena constituency, Akwasi Nti, has invoked curses upon himself over allegations of taking monies from aspirants to secure them places in the upcoming primaries.

This comes after the incumbent Member of Parliament, lawyer Andrews Amoako, speaking in an interview, accused him of manipulating the constituency to favour other aspirants.

However, Chairman Nti, reacting to the allegations on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem, stressed there was no way he could influence the process, especially when he is not the one to compile the album.

The two robbers who used a taxi in their operations, robbed the unsuspecting bank customer of her money soon after she made her transaction.

Fomena Police Commander, Supt. Albert Fii Ochil, said Pricilla Darko and two young men reported the incidence to the police.

Supt Ochil, giving details of the incidence said Pricilla, after withdrawing money from the bank was invited by the two robbers to join their taxi if she was in a hurry to go to Ayaasi.

The victim obliged to the invite but as they were on their way, she was allegedly robbed by the suspects.

Priscilla reported the theft to the taxi rank leadership who facilitated the arrest of the suspects whose names were given as Kwadwo Sarfo and Kofi Agyemang.

Kwadwo Sarfo, a 20-year-old taxi driver explained he drove from Anhwiankwanta to Adansi Asokwa but on his way back to Ayaasi, he was joined by the victim.

According to him, the journey was smooth until his friend begged him to pick him at a different location hence his diversion but on his way back he was stopped and accused of robbery.

Kofi Agyemang, a 37-year-old steel bender and friend of the driver also denied knowledge of the theft leveled against him, saying he was a mere passenger who joined the taxi to Ayaasi to visit a friend.
