Hawa Koomson’s ‘boys’ arrested over Kasoa shooting incident https://www.adomonline.com/hawa-koomsons-boys-arrested-over-kasoa-shooting-incident/ Tue, 21 Jul 2020 07:24:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1829835 It has emerged that the four suspects arrested in connection with the voter registration disturbances at Kasoa are supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The suspects, Sulley Razak, Majeed Amadu, Suleman Yusuf and Razak Musa, have been provisionally charged with disruption of the voter registration process, discharge of firearm without authority and causing unlawful damage.

Anita Kukua, spokesperson for the Minister for Special Development Initiative, Hawa Koomson disclosed this in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Tuesday.

“They were boys who were in the Member of Parliament’s (MP) pickup with her at the time of the incident and have now become the targets while the real perpetrators are nowhere to be found,” she said.

She explained events have turned out this way because they were the people the police came to meet at the scene.

This comes after madam Koomson, who is the MP for the Awutu Senya East constituency, on Monday admitted to firing gunshots at the Step to Christ registration centre in the area.

Miss Kukua, who described the incident as unfortunate, argued it was important for madam Koomson to protect herself since there was no police.

“We all know she is a hard woman and will not stand to allow any form of intimidation at Kasoa but she did not just decide to go there and fire shots but the situation called for it,” she said.

Meanwhile, they are set to be put before the court in Cape Coast today, Tuesday, July 21.

The youngsters were caught after family of Isabel Bastatas went to visit her grave the morning after she was buried Davao, the Philippines and found the coffin had been opened.

According to local media reports, they found that her tomb had been disturbed and her legs could be seen poking out of the white coffin.

The relatives believe that Isabel’s dead body had been raped after she was discovered without undergarments and there were signs of intercourse.

The dead woman was buried in the Digos City Public Cemetery on September 29.

Officers from Digos City police investigating the incident have detained the teenagers – who can’t be identified for legal reasons.

Lieutenant Colonel Ernesto Castillo said the two teenagers may have suspected that some valuables were buried together with the corpse.

“The arrest was made after witnesses came to us to help with the investigations,” he said.

Police are investigating what was allegedly stolen from the grave and if the pensioner’s body was interfered with.

The suspects deny the allegations and have been transferred to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare Development Office.

The family of the dead grandmother said they will pursue legal action against the parents of the suspects.

Earlier this year, police in the United States said a son had sex with his 89-year-old mother’s corpse after he killed her.

Lindsey Turiano, 58, is said to have beat Norma with a walking stick in San Antonio, Texas.

Police process two boys for court for feigning kidnappings https://www.adomonline.com/police-process-two-boys-for-court-for-feigning-kidnappings/ Tue, 25 Jun 2019 06:21:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1677340 Two boys in the Upper East Region are to face the law for faking their kidnapping.
According to the Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ampofo Duku, the conduct of the suspects was unlawful; thus the need for them to be arraigned to serve as a deterrent to others.

He said on Accra-based radio station, Citi FM, that one of the boys aged 15 is said to have demanded a ransom of GH?200 from his parents.

According to him, the boy, after incurring a debt at a football betting centre, bought an old SIM card and called his mother to demand the ransom.

He said the boy was arrested after the ransom was sent to the supposed kidnapper through mobile money.

“The boy’s parents reported to the police and the police was able to entice the boy and then negotiate with the supposed kidnapper, and then a ransom of GH?200 was sent through mobile money,” he said.

Mahama boys hold secret meeting in V/R over prosecutions https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-boys-hold-secret-meeting-vr-prosecutions/ Mon, 28 Aug 2017 06:22:27 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=436801 Today can report that some ministers and appointees of the erstwhile Mahama administration, alleged to have either engaged in corrupt practices or superintended over financial malfeasance, are living in fear, following the announcement by the ruling government that it will start prosecution of those people in October this year.
The Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, a fortnight ago, through its Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Joseph Kpemka, served notice to suspected corrupt officials of the former President John Dramani to be ready to face the full rigours of the law when they start prosecuting them in October.
According to him, government was currently building cases against such officials and will put them before the courts, come October “Some of these persons who have been daring us on television or radio have questions to answer in court.” “By October when we start moving to court with some of the cases, Ghanaians will know that we are serious and we are ready to fight corruption as a canker in this country and uproot it once and for all,” he said when he spoke on Citi FM.
Following that announcement, some alleged corrupt former appointees of the past administration who thought they could buy time with the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor, our investigations revealed, met over the weekend at an unknown place in the Volta Region to strategise on how to counter NPP’s government in court.
Among their strategies, Today’s further investigations uncovered, was a plan to incite supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to brand their arrest as political witch-hunting. That, a leading member of the opposition NDC party, who was also a former minister, but supports the prosecution of his colleagues told Today on condition of anonymity that the alleged corrupt appointee were already in touch with the party foot-soldiers and serial callers to prepare themselves for that task.
“In fact they will be bussing our supporters from all the regions down to Accra anytime anyone of them will be invited by either the CID or EOCO for investigation, so as to create tension in the country,” our source said. Apart from this strategy which emerged at the said meeting, Today gathered that they would also use some journalists to make the government look bad in the eyes of the international and donor communities, and by extension, discourage investors.
To crown it all, the alleged former corrupt appointees, Today further gathered, decided to hire the best legal brains in the country to defend them in court, although they resolved not to use pro-NPP lawyers. According to our investigations, the lawyers who were pencilled down at the meeting include Nana Ato Dadzie, Abraham Amaliba, Victor Adawuga, David Annan, Thaddeus Sory, Dr. Raymond Atubiga, Tony Lithur, Dominic Ayine and Osafo Boabeng.
Conspicuously missing on the list was Tsatu Tsikata, but our source said, Tsatsu had earlier told the NDC hierarchy that he would not defend any NDC member in court on corruption charges.
And those former alleged appointees who are likely to be prosecuted by the NPP’s government, our checks at the Flagstaff House revealed, include former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Health insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Sylvester Mensah, former National Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Kofi Portuphy, former CEO of Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, former Minister of Transport, Dzifa Attivor and former Managing Director of Intercity State Transport Corporation, Mr. Samuel Nuamah Donkor.
Others are former Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Elvis Afryie Ankrah, former Executive Director of Ghana Standard Authority (GSA), Dr. George Crentsil, former CEO of Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA), Rudolph Berkley, former CEO of National Youth Authority (NYA), and current MP for Kumbugu constituency in the Northern Region, Ras Mubarack, former Minister of Sports and now MP for Bawku Central in the Upper East Region, Mahama Ayariga, National Organiser of NDC, Kofi Adams, and entrepreneur, Selassie Ibrahim.
The rest are Presidential Staffer, Kwesi Baffoe-Bonnie, former CEO of COCOBOD, Dr. Stephen K. Opuni, former Board Chairman of SSNIT, Professor Joshua Alabi, Presidential Aides, Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, and Vincent Senam Kuagbenu, who was the former Director of the National Service Secretariat, and one Sandow Seidu Kpedu, who was attached to the former First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, and many more.

Hon Minister, we are concerned on the appointment of the Area manager of MASLOC, which there seeming rumors suggesting that government is considering the appointment of an unknown individual to that portfolio.

As party officers, we have worked with these constituency executives and there is a solid and cordial relationship established among us in the area.

As a result, it is in our view that, the Northern Sector MASLOC Area Manager office must be given to Mr. Musah Mutawakilu, Tamale Central Constituency Secretary.

Mr. Minister, we believe you are a minister of state due to the fact that, the NPP has won an election. We wish to avert a situation where our party will be in power and our fate still in the balance. Do you imagine life a day without employment?
