There are reports in the Ashanti Region of suspected extortion of money from newly-engaged personnel of the Nation Builders Corps.

District co-coordinators are collecting GHC 200 from each person supposedly for transportation for a trip to Accra for the launch of the programme.

Personnel say they are asked to deposit their letters of engagement in addition to the money, though they are not given evidence of payment.

Those who are unable to afford the 100 Ghana cedis or cannot make the trip are made to pay less, some as low as 10 Ghana cedis.

Complainants from various parts of the region say co-ordinators will not explain who authorized them to collect the money and why all recruits must travel to Accra for the launch.
